The California Wine Tasting Notes

COLGIN

COLGIN, IX ESTATE SYRAH 2006

Composition

55% Cabernet, 25% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc from Madrona Ranch,
9% Petite Verdot from Thorevilos vineyard

Tasting Notes
The 2006 IX Estate Syrah is the most savory Syrah we’ve made to date. Salty aromas of bacon fat, parma ham, soy and white pepper bombard the nose. Sweeter notes of purple fruits, fresh flowers and caramel bring balance to the savory quality of this wine. As brooding as it is, the wine holds a great freshness as well. The wine coats the palate with a beautiful broad entry and layers of silky tannin. Rich aromatics continue to linger for over a minute on the finish.

COLGIN, IX ESTATE RED WINE 2017

Composition

68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc, 11% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot

Tasting Notes
The 2017 “IX Estate” beams from the glass with a feeling of purpose and a sense of place. In its youth, this vintage has continually shown enhanced soil driven aromas such as iron and graphite along with the sappy wild sage that grows in the periphery of this site. Raspberry and marzipan combine with juniper and nutmeg, adding complexity at every sip. The 2017 “IX Estate” offers a balance of firm yet pleasurable structure and a harmonious succulence. The 2017 “IX Estate” retains focus and purity combined with heightened acidity, ensuring it will last for decades.

COLGIN, CARIAD ‘NAPA VALLEY’ RED WINE 2006

Composition

57% Cabernet, 25% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc from Madrona Ranch and
7% Petite Verdot from Thorevilos

Tasting Notes
The 2006 vintage of our Cariad blend is a formidable wine. With big brooding aromas of grilled steak juices, roasted coffee grounds and tar, the wine certainly makes a big first impression. Fragrant aromas of spiced coffee cake, crushed rock and wet loamy earth come out as the wine is coaxed with air. The texture is both voluptuous and coating. The lusciousness of the tannin makes it appealing upon release, but as always with this bold and intensely structured wine.
